The engagement party was announced on Facebook months ago. Friends were urged to sign up and by the attendance list you know who're coming. I was quite excited to attend as it's going to be a reunion for the Vision clan.
Being a Kiwi social function, the venue setting was the youth hall of a church. Most likely because their friends are here. Families & friends came from Auckland, Wellington and Australia. Not a restaurant, as Chinese usually would. Nibbles such as pizza slice, pie, sausage roll, meat ball and sweets were provided along with soft drinks and cocktail punch. Bec, Trina's sister, baked a 2-layer chocolate wafer cake.
Hugs a lot, surprises abound. Friends cared about each other's career & status. Two graduates were married since last year. A slide show was running on the stage screen. All photos were taken during their romance stage. One caught my eyes as they were kissing at the back of the tour van. I happened to be in the front seat when that scene was shot.
Guests were then mingled into different tables to test their knowledge of the couple. Bec the MC set off a quiz game such as how they first met? How did EP propose? Their likes, dream jobs, favorite food / restaurant / honeymoon place, and who owns which albums/DVD? Cheers & sighs roared through the hall as answers were revealed. I secretly argued about where their love sparkled - perhaps at my dinner table?
EP's 3 sisters recounted funny stories from childhood including dressing him up as a girl. They heartily welcome Trina into the family.
EP's dad Ray played guitar & sang a self-composed song to congratulate them. They were invited to dance along. With EP on drums, Madeleine on vocal and now Ray, I should have known this family is pretty music talented.
("your curve's so cool..." you heard that?)
Nothing spetacular, just a simple, sober, and warm-hearted party. When Andrew the Principal made a speech, I looked around finding Joanne, Simon, Brett, Kerri & Rob, Sarah, Breony, Adam, Matt G., Jeremy, Sam, Kirsten, Ben, Victoria ... all the familiar faces I'd known from VC.
A torrent of ecstasy swept through me. Was it real? Back to the past? These people shared the same room with me again? Had we bid adieu to pursue individual journey? Oh, how I cherish that moment when all imprints they left with me bounced back!
